BIO

Marco Sobrevinas graduated from the Ontario College of Art with Honours.  His first job was the photo assistant for a respected architectural photographer.  Over a two year period, Marco’s foundation in architectural photography was honed using demanding and difficult to operate 4×5 and 8×10 sheet film view cameras (this was years before the widespread use of digital photography in high-end commercial work).

Using his knowledge of working on location, Marco’s next couple of working years was as a freelance photojournalist in Asia.  He worked for various aid agencies and newspapers, including time in civil war zones.

Returning to Canada, Marco was one of the first commercial photographers to begin using early digital photographic technology for a major Canadian retailer.  This experience led to a career in advertising photography, both as a photographer and photo producer, for various major photo studios, working for the largest national retailers and brands in Canada.  Among Marco’s clients over the past 20 years are –

  • The Hudson Bay Company – retail advertising and packaging, including photography for Brian Gluckstein’s line of merchandising with The Bay
  • Canadian Living magazine
  • Style @ Home magazine
  • Canadian Tire
  • Loblaw Group: Loblaws, Fortino’s, Shoppers Drug Mart, and currently, Joe Fresh
  • Sears Canada
  • The Home Depot
  • Giant Tiger
  • Metro Groceries
  • Pharma Plus
  • Proctor & Gamble
  • LG Electronics
  • Kellogg’s
  • Hunter-Straker
  • Cundari
  • Young & Rubicam

Marco just completed a 2-year contract as the Photo Fashion Producer for all eCommerce photography for the Joe Fresh brand, at Pi Media.  He is currently doing Virtual Reality photography on location with Toursler.
